A Real American Beauty is Always Made in America

When we sing America the Beautiful, most of us feel a certain fondness for the natural wonders of the North American continent. Adding to the beauty of our ‘amber waves of grain…, purple mountains’ majesty…, and sea to shining sea’ are the fine homes that add artistic expressions to the landscape.

There is another manifestation of America the Beautiful out there across the land. It is the built environment. In this world, the human touch is allowed to express itself in art, function and creature comforts. Here, America the Beautiful becomes an individual’s vision expressed by personal choices in architecture, décor and furnishing.

Be a patriot when remodeling and decorating.

ABC News Segment - Made in America

Watch a recent segment from ABC News on how one homebuilder is taking the "Made in America" adage to the extreme.

For homeowners who feel a duty to buy American products whenever possible, there are many excellent manufacturers of high quality building materials, plumbing, fixtures, cabinetry, countertops, furniture, window treatments and other products all made here in the USA.  Any notion that you should look to European, Asian, or other foreign manufacturers to find the most elegant and fine quality articles for your home can be set aside. We recommend many American made products to our clients and always with high quality results.

“It’s all about jobs…”
In this political season, we often hear both sides of the aisle talk about how they want to create more American jobs, which is an important issue. We’re proud of the many designers, homebuilders and remodelers who are pointing clients in the direction of U.S. made options. Many clients are buying American – a positive measure that actually does create jobs here in our country.

Our design team has been struck by how many homeowners are making material choices based on where they are manufactured. Let’s look at an example of American made value by comparing the quality of countertops – one brand manufactured in Portugal, the other in Minnesota.

Silestone® is quartz based surface material produced in Portugal by the parent company Cosentino, a Spanish conglomerate of manufacturers. Cosentino controls a worldwide distribution network of its brands of surface materials including Silestone®. They offer a wide range of colors, textures and patterns in a high quality, durable line of countertops.

Then again, so does Cambria®, a four generation family-owned company in LeSueur, Minnesota. Their selection is amazing with unmatched color innovation, and their surface quality is world class. When you consider that not only are the manufacturing, but also the quartz mining, supply chain and distribution operations all based in the USA, it makes sense for many to go with Cambria and support all those good American jobs along the way.

More choices made in the USA
There are lots of American companies you can support with your materials choices and here are a few we recommend:

  • Cambria Quartz countertops
  • Candlelight Cabinetry
  • Plain & Fancy Cabinetry
  • Moen Faucet
  • Kohler Faucet & Toilets
  • Aquaglas Tubs
  • Broan Exhaust
  • Heat n Glo Fireplace
  • Benjamin Moore Paint
  • Dal Tile
  • American Olean Tile

Making sure the style and quality of your materials choices fit your design tastes as well as support your values can be challenging. We enjoy maneuvering these waters and clients appreciate our guidance to help them make decisions they feel really good about.
